Second Picnic – July 11th 2010

Dear Members and Friends,

Considering the requests we got from many members, we decided to move our second picnic to Sunday, July 11th, 2.00 – 6.00 pm, following the World Cup final game. We hope that this change will not cause any inconvenience for our members.

Date: July 11, 2010 – Sunday
Time: 2pm to 6pm
Location: Grass area at the west end of the “Spanish Banks” beach line towards the UBC.
Food: BBQ and Potluck.

This year Turkish Society will not be serving food to our members but tea and coffee will be provided free of charge for after-meal enjoyment.
Tents will be set up for potluck food and tables will be made available to members for use. Society will provide paper plates, plastic cutlery (forks and knives) and beverage cups.

Members are perfectly welcome to join the picnic with their own food only. It would be a good idea to supply your own BBQ (gas or coal) if you are planning on preparing meat, however if you are unable to bring your own BBQ with you, you will have the opportunity to use one of the BBQs that may become available.

Opening Ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m.
Entertainment continues until 1:00 a.m. next day.

Place: Scandinavian Community Center
6540 Thomas St , Burnaby, BC (off Kensington south of Sprott and north of Hwy 1)

Tickets are now for sale: Adult: $7 Student : $5 Children under 12: FREE

Please contact Guler (guler.aylar@gmail.com) to purchase your tickets and apply for the volunteer positions.

Volunteers will work 2 hours at the food and cultural booths and get free tickets for the day and night entertainment.

Turkuaz (Turquoise) Dance Group and Turkish Music Band “Truva” will perform at the festival.

Turkish cuisine will be represented under the leadership of Fatma Telli and Mehmet Telli at the food booth.

A great opportunity to meet and have fun with the athletes and other members of the Turkish delegation to the 2010 Winter Olympics! Also, dancing to the wonderful live music of Truva Trio (+Chara Berk) as well as the lively tunes of Burinata Duo! Thanks to Fatma Telli, Zinnet Omidvar and friends for organizing this event & arranging for Turkish food!

Dear Turkish Canadian Society Members and Friends,
General Annual Meeting for the year of 2010 is scheduled for Sunday, January 24, 2010. As per our constitution only society members who have paid membership dues will be able to vote for the new board members. Those who would like to vote but will not be able to attend the meeting may choose to vote with a proxy. A copy of the official proxy is mailed as part of the Toplum magazine sent to all members in the month of January 2010. Alternatively a copy can be requested by emailing society’s official email address.
